Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, the ligament running from your heel to the ball of your foot. The bottom or inside of your heel may hurt when you stand. The pain usually decreases after you walk a few steps, but it may return with prolonged movement. Plantar fasciitis is caused by straining the ligament that supports the arch of your foot. Repeated strain can cause tiny tears in the ligament leading to pain or swelling. Plantar fasciitis is common in middle-aged people as well young people who spend a lot of time on their feet, like cashiers or athletes (especially runners). The following factors also increase the risk of plantar fasciitis:

  • Flat feet.
  • High arches.
  • Long distance running.
  • Obesity or sudden weight gain.
  • Tight Achilles tendon.
  • Shoes with poor arch support.
